FIRST COMPLETED SEMESTER!!!!

WOOT WOOT!!!

I thought I show work finished during the year. It had been long perilous and just...wow. I will update some of my work later, since I don't have them with me - like my black and white SELF-PRINTED photos - but all my other ones I do have and am quite happy for. Well... some of them.

Introduction to Artist Books:

I don't have many of projects for this class besides my final. Will be taking of earlier projects later.

Final had a screen printed black of french paper, both the front and back covers. The pages are text weight french paper. Sewn with needle and thread. May do more phobias over the summer, to have a complete set. Not sure as of yet. These were the only ones I could think of reasonable fears...

The pages are 4.5" x 6"

My inspiration for this was Edward Gorey and a slice of Dave Correria.

For this project I had to recreate logos off of Illustrator. Was quite hard at first, being OCD and wanting everything to be perfect. After awhile I wanted nothing more than to have it done. Yet once your finished, then you want to do another. It makes one want to see how much they can complete in one go. Or if they can get it right the first time.

Project 4 - InDesign

For this project we had to create different business card layouts in Indesign. We also had to create a 4-process color business card and a 2-spot color business card. We had to correctly use tabs and paragraph alignments without using kerning and tracking. It was quite interesting. I learned a lot which made me super excited.

Project 5 - Photoshop

We had to first learn the techniques on a salad before doing actual fruits and vegetables. Size for this was not a requirement.

Photoshop's photo correcting abilities were used in Project 5. We were to find or use the photos provided to either clean up, fix, or color, or use all to a damaged photo. It had looked easy at first (we did the salad first), but once you notice the little things in photos, you begin to realize how much you appreciate those who restore old images. The job is so tedious and time consuming! Project 5 actually had two parts, sadly I cannot find my completed piece. Part B of this project was a collage that I wasn't very fond of. If I could, I wish I could fix the one I turned in.

Project 6 - InDesign

We had to recreate a add layout that was given by using a GA-96 ruler. It was not the happiest of projects, because I could not understand how the ruler worked. But I did appreciate the things my teacher showed us on how to do it.

Project 7 - Illustrator/Photoshop/InDesign

We had to create a bottle in Illustrator, as well as recreate a schnazy label for the bottle, "Massimo's", as if we were going to sell it. Then after cleaning up and making sure the bottle was to your liking, we had to import it into Photoshop, choose a salad that was given - clean it up and create the necessary shadows for it - and make a salad and salad bottle layout, then, import that all into InDesign. In InDesign we finish up the bottle layout. It was actually fun after getting a hang of it. I felt like a true advertising designer. Might take a product design class later on in my art courses.

Project 8 - Final

We had to create four "poster" booklet. A Formal Poster, A Symoblic, A Literary, and A Pictorial Poster. We had to use correct dashes - Em Dashes and En Dashes - as well as correct tabs and dot leaders. What took me the most time in creating this project was finding the quotes.

Beginning Typography:

Type Project I

We had to create letters on graph paper that did not use diagonals or curves. These are the finished products.

Type Project II

In this project we had to create word image, or in other words, a word that presented as its meaning.

Type Project III

In this project we had to make a paragraph - that was given to us - to look appealing. There were some exceptions to how it could look, but if you wanted it to be readable, you had to make it readable and so on and so forth.

Type Project IV

Like the project above, we were given a paragraph and had to use a grid to make it more appealing. A lot of my classmates used similar patterns, I luckily had different ones. I prefer the first and second designs. My teacher enjoyed the first.

Type Project V

We had to create a poster design for "Design, Culture, Now". I had trouble at first, not realizing that my teacher was giving us a lot of freedom. Luckily, I got the message as you can see with the last three, compared to the first one.

The Poster is 11"x 17"

Type Project VI

Final Project, we had to create a typographic booklet. Or type book. The book was to be book bound and the pages to printed neatly and cut on correctly. The whole thing made you want to quit, but in the end it was worth it. I love the design to mine, sadly, I do not have photos of it's completion. I still have to retrieve my missing book from my friend.

The book is 5" x 5".
